About the Brahma Kumaris - International Organisation

The Brahma Kumaris is known for its grass roots work in spiritual education and as a convenor of international projects and dialogues dealing with issues of world transformation.

Founded in India in the 1930s, the Brahma Kumaris now have 8,500 branches in over 90 countries. They work alongside individuals and organisations in all areas of the community, such as healthcare, education, youth, social services, the criminal justice system and in interreligious dialogue.

A visionary leader, the founder, Brahma Baba, envisioned a time when people of all backgrounds would come together to rediscover and develop the spiritual dimension of their lives. One of his most revolutionary inspirations was to place women in the major leadership roles of the Organisation.

The Brahma Kumaris have general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and consultative status with UNICEF. It is a 7 times awarded UN peace messenger.
